It’s back and bigger than ever! On September 28th, Leap Motion is kicking off its second annual global competition for developers building innovative experiences for virtual reality, desktop, mobile, and beyond.

In the two years since we released our technology to the world, we’ve been working constantly to bring new tools and assets to developers building with our platform. Resources like video passthrough, Image Hands, and UI Widgets are all small but fundamental steps in building the future of VR. We can’t wait to see what kinds of experiences you can build with them.

Last year’s competition was incredible, with over 160 submissions and some really amazing titles. For 3D Jam 2015, teams will compete in two tracks – Open and AR/VR. We’re giving away over $50,000 in prizes. Entries will be accepted until November 9th, 2015 at 11:59:59 pm PST.

Hand tracking and virtual reality are both emerging technologies, and combining the two into a fluid and seamless experience can be a real challenge. Today, Leap Motion and OSVR announced that the upcoming OSVR Hacker Dev Kit will feature an optional faceplate embedded with Leap Motion hardware. The addition of the OSVR faceplate with Leap Motion will make the HDK the first-to-market virtual reality headset with fully integrated motion control technology. This also marks the first in a future lineup of virtual reality headsets with embedded Leap Motion hardware and software.

Are you ready to forge ahead with Unreal and the future of VR? Epic and Leap Motion have joined forces to create an official plugin for Unreal Engine 4. With this introductory Windows plugin, developers can quickly and easily add virtual hands to their games.

Right now, you can access the plugin directly from the Unreal 4.7 source code. Download the source from Unreal’s GitHub repository, build it, and start creating an amazing experience for desktop or VR! The plugin will also be bundled with future Unreal binary tool releases.
